Jonathon David Kitchens, Sr., 59, of Midland, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2020 from a long battle with small cell lung cancer.
David was born July 10, 1960 in Atlanta, GA, to the late John Cason Kitchens, Sr. and the late Katie Myra McCarty Kitchens. He was also preceded in death by sister, Patricia Kitchens Daniel.
David was a religious man who devoted his life to his wife and children. He was passionate about fairness, honesty and loyalty amongst his family, friends and peers. Being a committed family man, he always placed the welfare of care and support over his own needs.
David joined the United States Air Force at the age of 17. After serving one year, he was honorably discharged so he could take care of his parents due to his Father's illness. He felt strongly about fulfilling his commitment to his country, so he enlisted in the Air National Guard for 6 years. David earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at UNC-Charlotte. He was employed with Scripto/Calico Brands, Inc. as Regional Vice President for the Southeast division for 21 years. He believed in a strong work ethic, hard work and doing the job right.
Never smoked a day in his life he placed value on good health and was an avid walker. David's hobbies included walking, landscaping, golfing and motorcycling riding. He loved spending his time with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include beloved wife of 37 years, Dawn Livingston Kitchens; daughter, Stephanie Kitchens Shirey and husband, Chris, of Monroe; son, Jonathon David Kitchens, Jr., and wife, Chelsea, of Statesville; brother, John Cason Kitchens, Jr., and wife, Phyllis, of Raleigh; brother, Paul Campbell Kitchens and wife, Diane, of Weddington; and 4 grandchildren, Ryan, Sarah, Noah and Graham.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 am - 10:45 am, Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 am in the funeral home chapel, officiated by Pastor Chris Dale. Burial will follow at Mt. Harmony Baptist Church, Matthews.
