Robert Cane Anthony, an extraordinary young man who worked hard, loved his job at McLane, loved fiercely, and who left a profound impression on almost everyone he met, passed away September 29th, 2026 of complications from Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma and HLH Autoimmune Disease. He was 25 years old.
Cane was diagnosed in March 2026 with Lymphoma and HLH. Both are aggressive diseases. After almost 6 months of treatment, August 18th the lymphoma was in remission and Cane had his last round of chemo and rang the bell. August 31st, just 12 days away from receiving his final treatment, a Tcell transplant, the HLH returned. He spent 29 days in the hospital.
While there, Cane would walk laps around the oncology floor and encourage the other patients. He always told them to “Drink your water and keep moving”. He would tell everyone about his love of birds and watching the Robert E. Fuller wildlife cameras. He loved the outdoors and hiking.
He often reminisced about his years on the Cox Mill High School wrestling and cross-country teams and stayed connected with friends he made. He enjoyed collecting train lanterns and vintage items. His passion for collecting signatures of his favorite characters and voice-over actors took him to conventions where he met several actors, including Chuck Norris.
But Cane’s absolute biggest passion was spending time with his friends and family. Whether it was going to a convention, or restaurant, hiking, or just hanging out. He couldn’t get enough time with those he loved. Those were the memories he cherished the most.
Cane made an impression on everyone he met because he was always so positive. He had a quiet, warrior spirit and was fiercely loyal to his family and friends. He had a natural charm and always tried to make others laugh and lift their spirits.
The past few years he volunteered at Princeton’s Meow where he enjoyed caring for the adoptable cats. He was humble and had the kindest soul and gentlest spirit. He had very strict morals and strong convictions and loved the Lord. He truly enjoyed the simple things in life and made ordinary days memorable.
Cane embodied the meaning of good. His absence will be felt by the many people whose lives were made richer by knowing him. He leaves behind his grieving family and friends, and his beloved dog, Nugget.
A celebration of life will be Saturday, October 10th, 10am. Hartsell Funeral Home, 460 Branchview Dr. NE, Concord, NC 28026.
Cane will be transported to Radcliff, Kentucky after and will be laid to rest beside his maternal grandparents.
