William "Bill" May

March 23, 1931 — August 9, 2020

Concord

William "Bill" S. May, 89, of Concord, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 9, 2020.

Bill was born March 23, 1931 and raised in Nantahala, NC, as the oldest of 8 children to the late Roy and Bonnie May.  He was also preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Frances May and son, Randy May.

Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.  He proudly served during the Korean War.  He married Frances Moses of Cullasaja, NC, and they lovingly raised 4 children in Charlotte, NC, to love the Lord.  Bill and Fran taught their children to work hard and to always love family.  Bill worked in the grocery store business until he was 83 years old.  Bill, Daddy or Papaw was the diamond in our family crown.  He had a great love for Carolina basketball and country music.  Now, he is safely in the arms of our Lord and standing beside his bride and son.  Daddy, we love you and will see you soon.

Bill is survived by his three daughters, Terri Sherrin and husband, Eddie, of Lutz, FL, Debbie Rice and husband, Gary, of Concord, NC, Tammy Brewton and husband, Ronnie, of Concord, NC; daughter-in-law, Terry May of Sevierville, TN; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 am - 11:45 am, Saturday, August 15, 2020 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Harrisburg.  The memorial service will follow at 12:00 pm in the funeral home chapel, officiated by Rev. Dr. Donnie Gamble.  Burial with military honors will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens, Mint Hill, NC.
