William Aikey

William John Aikey, 92, of Concord, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at Atrium Health Cabarrus Hospital in Concord.

Bill was born on April 28, 1930, in Staten Island, New York.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Friday, October 7, 2022, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Harrisburg. The funeral service will be on Saturday, October 8, at 11:00 am at Saint Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church in Charlotte officiated by Father Raymond. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park of Harrisburg, located at 12015 University City Blvd., Charlotte.

Bill grew up in foster care without any parents. His wife’s parents became his own and his love and dedication to God and family helped him remain strong.

Bill worked for Otis Elevator starting as a helper and retired as the International Director of Education. His achievements included an elevator patent.

Bill’s passion was to go boating and fishing. He enjoyed driving to the mountains with his wife. He loved music and enjoyed listening to his wife play the piano while playing the harmonica.

He will be remembered by his family as Mr. fix it. There was nothing he couldn't repair or fix which included televisions, radios, cars, etc. He was an intellectual who enjoyed interesting conversation and always did it with the gift of humor and understanding.

He loved his family, all of them unconditionally. We have wonderful memories of him who was loved dearly.

We are going to miss you. He is at peace now, thanks be to God.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jane of Rockwell NC for 72 years.  He is also survived also by his sons, William C. Aikey and his wife Susan of Massachusetts; Donald J. Aikey of Massachusetts; Robert G. Aikey and his wife Catherine of North Carolina; Charles F. Aikey and his wife Marianne of New Jersey; Thomas J. Aikey and his wife Deborah of New Jersey.  He is also survived by 11 Grandchildren and 11 Great-grandchildren.

Bill was predeceased by his brother James, his sister Ruthie, and his sons Michael and John.
