On Sunday, July 18, 2021, Roscoe Hatley, of Oakboro went home to be with the Lord.
Born March 13, 1929 to Albert Hatley and Nellie Tucker Hatley, Roscoe's earthly journey began and ended in Oakboro, the town he loved.
He was the owner of H & H Supply in Oakboro for 33 years and was a founding member of the Oakboro Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as fire chief and as a member of the board.
Roscoe served his country in the US Army from 1951 - 1953, and upon his return, married his sweetheart, who he met in a chance encounter when the car she was riding in to work broke down. They celebrated 67 years of marriage in January.
Roscoe was a devoted member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He loved Oakboro and had a deep love and appreciation for the people in his small town. The feeling was mutual for anyone who met Roscoe.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Vera and Annie Lee; two brothers, Grady and Clayton; and his son and daughter in law, Nelson and Sharon Hatley.
He is survived by his wife, Novaleen H. Hatley of the home; daughter, Sceria H. Jenkins (Scott) of Stanley; sister, Evelyn Coble of Oakboro; six grandchildren, Jeffrey, Christina, Colin, Luke, Micah, and Lyndi; and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. His memorial service will be officiated by Dr. Shad Hicks and Rev. Scott Jenkins at 2:00 PM, Thursday, July 22, 2021 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 17236 Frog Pond Road, Oakboro. Burial will follow at the Oakboro Cemetery, 1397 North Main Street, Oakboro.
Memorials may be made in Roscoe's memory to Hospice of Stanly and Uwharrie, Pleasant Grove Baptist Church or Oakboro Volunteer Fire Department.
