Mary Alice (Smith) Ames, 69, of Kannapolis passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at Universal Healthcare in Concord, NC.   Mary Ames was born August 1, 1950 in Binghamton, New York to the late Mr. BJ Smith and Mrs. Marian Smith. She was also preceded in death by her sister; Teresa Smith of NC and her brother; Stephen Smith of MD.  She was a faithful employee of IBM for 22 years.

Mary is survived by her husband, Gary Howard Ames of Concord. They were happily married for 51 years. Mary is also survived by her three children, daughter; Tami Carr (Bruce) of Locust, NC; son, Gary Ames II (Jennifer) of Locust, NC; and daughter; Annemarie McWaters (Andy) of Mooresville, NC. She is also survived by two more sisters and one brother; Carol Smith of DE, Susan Perry (Virgil) of VA, and Bernard Joseph Smith (Charlene) of MD.

She was the proud grandmother of eleven grandchildren; Steven (Leah), Abigail (Gabriel), John, Amanda, Alli, Joseph, Jacob, Isaac, Olivia, Matthew, Maggie, and was soon-to-be a great-grandmother.  Mary loved her family and cherished their time together.  She had a lifelong love of the beach and was an avid speller and reader.  She had a way of making everyone laugh in her presence.  She loved and served the Lord faithfully and she never hesitated to share Him with others.

A visitation will be held Saturday, August 1, 2020 from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Royal Oaks Baptist Church, 904 Texas Street, Kannapolis, NC 28083.  The memorial service will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the church.

Mary was very faithful to the Lord’s house before her illness.   Flowers may be sent directly to the church at the address above.
