Marvin Woodrow Whitaker

January 28, 1951 ~ June 16, 2022 (age 71)


Marvin Woodrow Whitaker, 71, of Kannapolis NC, passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2022. He spent his last days at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis.

Marvin was born on January 28, 1951 in Bristol, Virginia to the late Woodrow Whitaker and the late Peggy Honeycutt. He was also preceded in death by daughter, Tracy Dawn Kennedy; and sister, Teresa Goodman.

Survivors include wife, Barbara Ann Whitaker, of Kannapolis, NC; sons, William Whitaker, of Kannapolis, NC, Joseph Whitaker of Concord, NC and Pete Kennedy of Salisbury, NC; daughters, Luann Tilley, of Rockwell, NC, Hollie Stone of Concord, NC; 11 grandchildren with many loving great-grandchildren. Brother, Adam Honeycutt of Kannapolis, NC; sisters, Donna Gardner, of Kannapolis, NC, Susan Price, Sharon Honeycutt, Angie Honeycutt, and Tammy Myers of Kannapolis, NC.

Marvin graduated from AL Brown high school, then became a United States Marine and held the rank of Lance Corporal. Marvin served our country as a marine for 4 years. He enlisted in 1972, recruit out of Paris Island, SC, then went on to working with airplanes. While in the Marines, he was appointed a National Defense Service Medal and awarded both rifle expert and pistol expert. He then went on to serve in the Army National Guard for an additional 2 years.

Post-military, Marvin loved his profession as a truck driver. He was able to see different places and meet new people. Marvin enjoyed going fishing, golfing and playing softball. Most of all, he loved telling his jokes to family and friends. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Memorials may be made to Tucker hospice House of Kannapolis, the Patriot Riders and any special veteran services.
