J. Luther Jarvis, MD, age 97, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, with family members by his side.
Born August 14, 1923, in Mars Hill, North Carolina, to the late O.M. and Althea Jarvis, he graduated from Wake Forest University Bowman Gray School of Medicine and immediately served as a doctor in the US Army Medical Corps stationed in China and later at Tokyo General. Always seeking more medical knowledge, Luke trained for several more years at various hospitals before joining Gaston Radiology in Gastonia, NC, in 1959. An accomplished physician, he practiced radiology and nuclear medicine in Gastonia until his retirement. Luke always enjoyed traveling, and after retirement, he and his loving wife Mary saw the world together. Luke loved his Lord and Savior and always strived to honor Him. While we will miss him dearly, his family takes comfort in knowing that he was welcomed into heaven by the Lord Almighty.
Luke loved his family with all his heart. He is survived by his devoted and caring wife of 62 years, Mary Jarvis; daughters: Jane (David) Mace, Ann (Mark) McCarthy, Carol (Stephen) Britt; son: John (Patricia) Jarvis; seven grandchildren: John and Will Mace; Mimi and Rob McCarthy; Katherine Britt; Sam and Jack Jarvis; sister-in-law Robbie Hendrick; and a nephew and several nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
A family celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
The Jarvis family extends their sincere gratitude to the caring staff at The Gardens of Taylor Glen Retirement Community in Concord, NC.
