Concord

Frances Helen Buckelew, passed away on Monday, August 10, 2020 in Concord, NC after living a long and wonderful life.  She was born February 19th, 1927 in Brooklyn, NY and was the daughter of Agnes and Peter Baronowski. Frances had one brother, Stanley, who is deceased. Frances graduated from Oyster Bay High School and Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School. She married Elbert (Al) Buckelew on April 7, 1948, and they raised their family in Hillsdale, NJ.  When her children were grown, she resumed her administrative career and she became registrar for Tenafly, NJ Adult School.

Frances was a true feminist before her time. She loved politics, President Obama, reading and discussing the news and watching CNN. She was very smart and cared about fairness, equality, and women’s issues.  Frances also really enjoyed shopping and had a great sense of fashion.  She loved her kids and grandkids fiercely and taught them all to be independent thinkers and was a “Mama Bear” to the end.  Frances also loved traveling, especially family trips to Cape Cod. She and Al took many trips traveling the world before they retired to Ocala, FL.  Frances moved to Concord, NC in 2006 to be near two of her daughters after Al’s passing.

Frances is survived by her daughters, Linda Buckelew Crowley of Appleton, WI, Janice Buckelew Goodpaster (Don) of Wilmington, NC, Laurie Buckelew (Cacace) Burt (Scott) of Concord, NC, and son, Donald Buckelew (Debbie) of Paradise Valley, AZ; grandchildren, Amanda Crowley (Nick), Sammie Crowley,  Jessica Buckelew, Ashley Kramar (Ilie), Julianne Ivey (Alex), Mark Goodpaster (Mariesa), Vincent Cacace, Hanna Cacace, step-granddaughter Madeline Burt, one great grandson, and three great grandchildren on the way.

Due to Covid 19, a celebration of Frances’s life will be held at a later date at Bushnell Cemetery in Florida. Frances loved and cared about animals and one of her favorite charities was the Humane Society of the United States.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Laurels Assisted Living in Charlotte, NC who have been very caring and supportive.
