Don Burleson

Don Huston Burleson, 88, of Albemarle, NC, died Wednesday afternoon after a long battle with congestive heart failure.

He was born July 5, 1931, in Albemarle, to Ralph and Letha Mae (Treece) Burleson.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Roby (Pete) Burleson, Olin Burleson and Kenneth Burleson; and three sisters, Blye Lowder, Madge Huneycutt and Maxine Carter.

On Dec. 23, 1950, he married his high school sweetheart, Oleamer Mae Hatley.

In addition to his loving wife of 69 years, other survivors include his two daughters, Cathy B. (Lowell) Frick of Richfield and Luanne B. Williams (Scott) of Albemarle; one son, Kim H. Burleson (Angie) of Albemarle; two grandchildren, Matt Burleson and Dayli Williams, both of Albemarle; Matt's fiancée, Amber Campbell of Troy; two step-granddaughters, Erin (Matt) Jameson of Matthews and Katie (Jeff) Stone of Dandridge, Tenn.; and seven step-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Burleson will lie in state at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle on Sunday, May 24, 2020 from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, May 25, 2020 at Pine Grove Methodist Church with the Rev. Brad Hinton officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pine Grove Methodist Church at 28766 N.C. 24/27 Hwy., Albemarle, NC 28001, where he was a lifelong member.

For most of his career, Don was employed as a linotype operator. He was a hard worker, a renowned tomato-grower and pecan-cracker, and he had a story for every occasion. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he loved his country and his family well. He will be forever missed.
