Carolyn Johnston

Carolyn Rushing Johnston of Harrisburg, North Carolina went home to be with the Lord on October 21st, 2020 at the age of 84.

Carolyn is survived by her husband of 64 years, Ben Johnston; her son, Mark Johnston and wife Connie Newell Johnston; her daughter, Wendi Johnston Kempf and husband Jim Kempf; her grandchildren, Ian Kempf, Dusti Shaffer and husband Mike Shaffer, and Brooke Gibbs and husband Jonathan Gibbs; her great-grandchildren, Judah Gibbs and Carrlyn Shaffer; and her sisters, Annie Faye Gardner and O’Neal Jennell. She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Dewitt and Ada Rushing, and her siblings, brother Hazel Rushing and sister Bernice Rushing.

Carolyn was born on December 3rd, 1935 in Mint Hill, North Carolina to Dewitt and Ada Rushing. She married Ben Johnston on October 26th, 1956. Carolyn and Ben welcomed their 2 children, Mark and Wendi. Carolyn devoted herself to loving and raising her children.

A funeral is scheduled for Saturday, October 24th, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Providence Baptist Church 5315 NC 49 S., Harrisburg, North Carolina 28075 where Carolyn was a faithful member for 27 years, with graveside service to follow at 1:00 p.m. at Sunset Memory Gardens at 8901 Lawyers Rd., Mint Hill, NC. Rev. Rody Carland will officiate the ceremony.
