Betty Gay Young Goebel, also known as "Gay", 72, of Charlotte, NC passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 12, 2020.
Gay was born March 4, 1947 in Valdese, NC to the late William Seck Young and the late Lacy Eloise Bandy Young.
She was also preceded in death by her sister, Joy Young Ringland.
Left behind is her loving husband of 53 years, Gerhard Erich Goebel, who truly admired her; daughter, Greta Christiana Johnston and husband Duane of Waxhaw, NC; two precious grandkids, Lacy Marie Johnston and Duane Andrew Johnston, Jr.; brother, Larry Young and wife Susan, of Hope, Idaho; brother, William Young and wife Zeny, of Sacramento, CA; nephews, Jacob Young and wife Kaitlyn, of Bradenton, FL; Robert Young and wife Raquel, of San Diego, CA; and James Young of San Diego, CA; and Billy Young, of San Diego CA; as well as her great niece Josephine, Bradenton, FL.
Gay met Gerd at Waynesville Country Club where she was a waitress and Gerd was a chef. It was love at first sight. They got married in Clyde, NC on June, 5th 1966, and moved to Charlotte shortly after. Gay loved to go shopping, and Gerd always went with her. They truly loved spending time together. She loved to buy different things for her family. She was always creative. Gay never met a stranger, she had the gift of gab, that was the mountaineer in her. Gay worked at Mechanical Contractors for over 30+ years. She loved her job and her co-workers as if they were apart of her family as well. Gay loved socializing. She was such a lively person and always smiled. Mom loved the holidays, and enjoyed baking for her family. She and Gerd would make his famous cheese cakes, and hand deliver them to different folks. She loved spending time with her grandkids, they were the apple of her eye. Gay enjoyed watching them play sports, and loved seeing their creativity through their music. Whenever her grandchildren needed her she was always there. My mom loved her son-in-law as if he was her own. She enjoyed being able to help out her family whenever she could. I'm going to miss reaching out to her by phone, and going out to lunch. Gay loved to travel to the mountains and to the beach. Her favorite places were Lake Junaluska and Dillsboro. Gay loved going to Helen, GA where we all would dress up in our German attire, and dance the night away. She had a passion to go on cruises with the family. We were fortunate enough to ring in the New Year on her last cruise. Gay loved to read. She would read to her husband while he was in and out of the hospital. The nurses would always say what a sweet couple they were. We love you and we will miss you. Heaven gained a beautiful angel.
