William Schultz

Dr. William James “Butch” Schultz left to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, August 21, 2009. He had been in declining health for several years.

The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home, Concord Sunday, August 23, from 6 to 8 PM. Services to celebrate Butch’s life will be held at Royal Oaks Baptist Church Monday, August 24, at 2 PM. Pastor Leon Smith will officiate. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. Military Honors will be performed by Cabarrus County Veterans Honor Guard.

Butch was born August 6, 1949 to Miriam Childers Schultz and William Moe Schultz. He attended local public schools and graduated from A.L. Brown High School in 1967. He subsequently attended and received a degree from the following institutions: Bachelor of Arts – Catawba College, Salisbury, NC; Master of Education – University of North Carolina at Charlotte; and Doctor of Philosophy – Empresarial University of Costa Rica at San Jose.

Mr. Schultz entered the US Army in 1970 and served as full time regular Army for three years. He served his country in the Nuclear Missile Branch and was stationed in West Germany.

Butch Schultz received articles of incorporation for Furniture Depot, Inc. on September 23, 1982 and the business grew to be among the most successful independently run stores in North Carolina. Butch and the business received many awards from different manufacturers for their achievements. He lead the business until his death. Butch said his greatest achievement was the opportunity to make so many friends through his business.

Butch Schultz felt very honored to have been chosen as Director for First Citizens Bank. He was on the initial Board and served until his death.

He was preceded in death by his father William Moe Schultz in 2003. He is survived by his loving wife Judy Carol Floyd Schultz of the home, his son William Alexander Schultz of Gold Hill, his mother Miriam Leona Childers Schultz of Concord, three sisters, Sharon Denise Boone and husband Rick of Gastonia, Cindy Kay Cox and husband Mort of Kannapolis, and Lisa Darlene Templeton and husband Larry of Concord, along with their children.

Memorials may be made to Royal Oaks Baptist Church, 904 Texas St., Kannapolis, NC 28083.
