Wade Love

Wade Love, 83, of Midland, NC passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at Novant Health, Mint Hill.

Wade was born August 20, 1943 in Cabarrus County to Luther “Luke” and Cathleen Starnes Love. As a child, Wade loved hunting, fishing, and playing baseball. He cultivated meaningful friendships at Bethel School that lasted throughout the rest of his life. In 1964, he married his sweetheart, Judy L. Mills, and together they built a life centered on faith, family, hard work, and love. Their marriage was a testament to a lifelong commitment to one another.

Wade proudly served in Vietnam from 1967-1968, and he was awarded the Air Medal, Purple Heart, and Bronze Star Medal for bravery. After his military service, Wade devoted himself to raising a family and building up a general contracting business, R.L. Mills Construction Company, started by his father-in-law after World War 2. He took great pride in his work ethic, reliability, knowledge, and skills.

An avid hunter and fisherman, Wade found joy and peace in the outdoors and developed his natural ability in photography. On early Saturday mornings, he was trying to score the perfect buck with either a rifle or a camera.

On Sunday mornings, you would find him at Wayside Baptist Church, worshipping the Lord. Wade sought to honor Jesus through his service, faithfulness, and love for others. He had a remarkable ability to see the needs of others and meet those needs without them knowing, giving generously and expecting nothing in return. His faith, service, and kindness left an enduring impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Wade is survived by his son, Chris Love (Holly), his daughter Nikki Drake (Keith), and his brother, Robert Love (Renee). Wade also leaves behind a legacy of hard work and love for others for his grandchildren: Aubrey, Luke, Landon, and Carrie.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm on Friday, September 4 at Wayside Baptist Church, 3606 Drake Road, Midland. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 pm and will be officiated by Pastor Tom Gibbs.
