Virginia Walker

October 4, 1931 — July 31, 2017

Virginia "Boots" Walker, 85, of Midland, went peacefully to her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ on Monday, July 31, 2017, surrounded by family and close friends.

Boots was born October 4, 1931 in Patterson Creek, West Virginia to the late Joe and Ruby Lechliter. In addition to her parents, Boots was also preceded in death by husband, Stanley Walker; brother, Phillip Lechliter; sister, Rebecca Deahl; and granddaughter, Tori.

Boots graduated from Fort Hill High School in Cumberland, Maryland and finished nursing school in 1952 at Memorial Hospital in Cumberland. She married her high school sweetheart, Stanley. They had 42 years of good life prior to his death in 1996. Boots was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and had a servants heart, volunteering in all activities at the church. Her involvement at Bethel included "Fun Timers Group," and Methodist Women. She enjoyed mission work locally and in Beverly, KY. Boots also volunteered at the senior center in Concord, NC and hospice of Cabarrus County.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at Hartsell Funeral Home, 13575 Broadway Avenue, Midland. The funeral service will be held 11:00 am, Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Bethel United Methodist Church, 12700 Idlebrook Road, Midland officiated by Rev. Mark Clontz. A memorial service to celebrate Boots' life will be held 11:00 am, Friday, August 4, 2017 at Davis Memorial United Methodist Church, 14300 Uhl Hwy SE, Cumberland, Maryland. Boots will be laid to rest following the memorial service at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Cumberland, Maryland.

Survivors include son, Greg (Susie) Walker, of Callahan, FL; son, Steve (Amy) Walker, of Matthews, NC; son, Dave Walker of Largo, FL; Pam Walker of Midland, NC; six grandchildren, Brandon, Nathan, Marcus, Justin, Jamie and Cayce; three great-grandchildren, Jaiden, Anna and Reed.

Boots was lovingly cared for by her friend and Christian sister, Frances Kerr, until the very end. The family also wishes to express their sincerest thanks to Tara, Julie and Latrice of PruittHealth Hospice.

Memorials may be made in Boots' memory to Bethel UMC Building Fund, Davis Memorial UMC or PruittHealth Hospice, 902 West D Street, Suite B, North Wilkesboro, NC, 28659.
