Thomas Alvie Tucker, 78 years of age, of Concord, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 2, 2013 at his home after battling Parkinson's Disease for 18 years. Thomas was born September 21, 1934 in Stanly County to the late Alvie Ranson Tucker and the late Ruby Lee Scott Kiker. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Sherman Tucker and Rob Kiker. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. The funeral service will be on Thursday at 11:00 am at Glorieta Baptist Church in Concord, with Dr. William Nix officiating. The body will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis, with military honors conducted by the Cabarrus County Veterans Honor Guard. At other times, the family will be meeting at the home. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Alinda Tucker; his four children, Mitchell Hartsell and wife Mary Ruth, Becky Carriker and husband Jerry, Denise Sutton, and Debbie Peterson and husband Randy; nine grandchildren, Travis Hartsell, Chad Carriker and wife Jennifer, Aaron Carriker, Maegan Barnhardt and husband Brandon, Matthew Sherrill, Lindsey Sherrill, Mikayla Tucker, Nicole Peterson, and Trevor Peterson; one great granddaughter, Bailey Mae Barnhardt; seven brothers, Lane Tucker and wife Madge, Johnny Tucker and wife Margaret, Gene Tucker and wife Marilyn, Leonard Tucker, Ervin Tucker and wife Janine, Jake Kiker and wife Gail, Larry Kiker; three sisters, Pat LaRoach and husband David, Pam Kiker, and Shelia Morton. Thomas graduated from New London High School and received his degree at Charlotte Technical School. He worked at Douglas Aircraft and Celanese Corporation. He was a very active member of Glorieta Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school director. He also worked with the church youth and served on numerous committees. Thomas loved fishing, woodworking, and most of all his family. He was a devoted husband, daddy, papaw, and great papaw. His family meant the world to him. He will surely be missed for his sense of humor, advise, and love he showed. We are happy you are now at peace.
