Joann Guffey

Sylvia Joann Guffey, age 92, a loving mother of four, adoring grandmother, and great-grandmother, went to be with the Lord peacefully on the evening of Monday, September 8th, 2025.

Born on June 12th, 1933, in Forest City, North Carolina, she was the cherished daughter of the late Grady and Ruby Collins. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clater Billy "CB" Guffey; son, Clater Billy "Bill" Guffey, Jr.; two loving sisters, Freida and Jeanine; and two brothers, TG and Jerry.

Joann was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was a charter member of Providence Baptist Church in Harrisburg, NC, where she joyfully taught Sunday School for twenty-five years and remained an active, faithful member throughout her life.

As a homemaker, Joann created a warm and loving home for her family. Gardening and cooking were her great joys—gifts she nurtured and passed on to her family with love. After the passing of her husband, she worked at IBM as a beloved caterer, where her pleasant smile and kind spirit touched everyone, she met. She will be remembered as a beautiful, God-fearing woman who showed love and kindness to all, never speaking a harsh word.

Joann’s survivors include her son, David Eric Guffey and wife, Tammy, of Concord, NC; daughters, Sylvia Parsons and Janice Wilkinson, both of Charlotte, NC. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Henley Guffey Burk and husband, Jerry, of Concord, NC; Claire Parsons and husband, Sam Marks, of Bloomfield, CO; Cooper Parsons and Collin Parsons of Charlotte, NC; and Clay Parsons of Great Barrington, MA; Weston Wilkinson and wife, Jane Cia, of New York, NY; Amy Splawn and husband, Keith, of Marietta, GA; and and Christopher Guffey and wife, Mariya Koval-Guffey, of Charlotte, NC; and three great grandchildren, Michael Weston Wilkinson III, Sophia and Easton Splawn.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 am - 10:45 am, Saturday, September 13, 2025 at Providence Baptist Church. The funeral service will be on Saturday at 11:00 am at Providence Baptist Church in Harrisburg officiated by Rev. Rody Carland and Rev. Mike Farley. Burial will follow at the Carolina Memorial Park Harrisburg at 12015 University City Blvd., Charlotte.
