Stanley Ray Marks, Sr., age 96, of Harrisburg, North Carolina, formerly of Penn Craft, Pennsylvania, passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis.
Mr. Marks was born on July 29, 1929, in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, to the late Edwin Samuel Marks and Emma Mae Cole Marks. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lois Ruth Marks, and by siblings Grace Cseko, Harry Marks, Doris Daugherty Swaney, Betty Angelo, Ruby Baker, Lena VanVoorhis, Rita Marks, Freda Marks, Joyce Smith, and Larry Marks.
Chief Warrant Officer 3 (CW3) Stanley R. Marks honorably served in the United States Army for 28 years, holding a wide variety of duties and assignments around the world. As a young Military Police officer in the aftermath of World War II, he served in the U.S. quadrant of occupied Vienna. His later work in special weapons involved the inspection and maintenance of U.S. nuclear weapons in numerous locations. Following his retirement from the Army, Mr. Marks continued to share his knowledge as an electrical instructor in Uniontown, Pennsylvania.
Mr. Marks and his wife, Lois, were longtime members of First Christian Church in Republic, Pennsylvania, where they faithfully served as deacons. After moving to North Carolina in 2016, he became a devoted member of Harrisburg United Methodist Church. He was also active in several civic and veterans’ organizations, including Sertoma International, the American Legion, and the Military Officers Association of America.
Mr. Marks is survived by his daughter, Cindy Marks (Ross) Fowler; his sons, Stanley Ray Marks, Jr. (Diane and children, Charlie and Katie) and Alan Marks (Robin); grandchildren, Amanda Fowler, Adam Marks (Angela), Angela Cook (Tillmon), and Jake Marks; great-granddaughters, Myla Marks, Millie Marks, and Elaine Cook; sisters, Twila Hall and Margaret Sheets; and sisters-in-law, Kathy Marks and Betty Lou Wainwright.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 22, 2025 from 1:00pm-2:45pm at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. A funeral service will follow at 3:00pm, officiated by Pastor Rob Hutchinson. Burial will be held at Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Boulevard, Salisbury on Thursday, October 23, 2025 at 10:00am.
Mr. Marks will be remembered most for his deep love of family and the joy he shared with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He loved to tease and his sense of humor was infectious. He was a generous and kind man whose faith and service enriched the lives of many, and he will be deeply missed.
