Obituary

Shirley Carter Lambert, 92, of Charlotte, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, June 13, 2026, at her home in Charlotte.

Shirley was born February 17, 1934, in Wadesboro, North Carolina to the late C.L. and Leila Carter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Houston Lambert, son, Keith Carter Lambert, brothers, James C. Carter, and Grady L. Carter.

At an early age Shirley exhibited great talent in music, especially piano and voice. She attended Wingate University where she continued to develop her lovely soprano voice and sang beautifully well into her 80s. While at Wingate she met the love of her life, Houston, and they were married in 1957, moved to Charlotte to begin their life together and were joyfully blessed with one son, Keith and his wife, Joan, later two grandchildren, Chris and Kelly, and one great-grandson, Ronnie. Later in life Shirley spent 20 years at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte working as an Administrative Assistant, which she thoroughly enjoyed. Her passion in life was singing and playing the piano and sharing her God given talent at weddings, funerals, and church services. She lived a strong and faithful Christian life devoted to her church family for 65 years. Family and friends will loving remember Shirley for her fun-loving personality, beautiful voice, and unwavering devotion to God.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm - 1:45 pm, Saturday, June 20, 2026, at King's Church Charlotte. The funeral service will be on Saturday at 2:00 pm at King's Church Charlotte in Charlotte, officiated by Pastor Chad Ferrell & Pastor Phillip Thomas. Burial will follow at the King's Church Charlotte Cemetery at 9115 Newell Baptist Church Rd., Charlotte.

Survivors include grandson, Chris Lambert, granddaughter, Kelly Lambert Franco (Ronnie), great-grandson, Ronnie Franco, Jr., sister, Margie C. Smith, and brothers, Ronald Y. Carter, and Reid W. Carter (Cindy).
