Shelby Robert "Hoppy" Reid, of 1309 Polk Ford Road, died August 6, 2009, at Hospice of Union County. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 Sunday afternoon at Love's Grove United Methodist Church, Rev. Jim White Officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:30 until 5:00 in the church's Family Life Center. Born June 18, 1938, in Mooresville, Mr. Reid was a veteran of the US National Guard. He was a long time member of Emery Wood Baptist Church in High Point. He was currently a member of Love's Grove United Methodist Church in Stanfield. Mr. Reid retired from CT Communications in Concord as a salesman. He is survived by his wife, Lalla Reid; sons, David Reid of Roanoke VA and Mark Reid of Winston-Salem; stepson, Michael Phelps of California; sister, Joanne Barger of Kernersville; brothers, Raymond Reid and Jerry Reid, both of Kernersville; and his first wife, Becky Reid Myers of Thomasville; seven grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey Leslie Reid and Clarice Stella Young Reid, and his son, Matthew Reid.
