Shelby Jean Curlee

Shelby Jean Curlee, 88, of Albemarle, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Stanly Manor in Albemarle.

Shelby was born June 26, 1938, in Stanly County, to the late Clyde James Hinson and the late Fronia Ramelle Hinson. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, Cecil Kent Curlee , Also a brother, Keith Hinson, and sister, Virginia Smith.

A Faithful member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Shelby was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother whose greatest joy was her family. She retired from Stanly County Tax Assessor's office after many years of dedicated service. Shelby has a remarkable talent for sewing and lovingly made clothing for her family. She also enjoyed painting, crafting and home decorating, always adding beauty and warmth wherever she went.

To her great grandchildren, she was simply MawMaw SheShe. They loved visiting her, knowing they would be greeted with one of her warm hugs, a smile, a dollar tucked into their pockets, and the candy bowl that faithfully sat by the door. Those simple traditions became treasured memories that will stay with them forever.

Shelby was known for her quick wit, gentle spirit, and her incredible ability to make everyone feel welcomed and deeply loved. Whether through a warm embrace, a thoughtful conversation, or a simple act of kindness, she has a way of making people feel like they belonged. Her love was steady, genuine, and freely given, leaving a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

The funeral service will be at 2pm on Friday, July 24, 2026, at Hartsell Funeral Home in the Lefler Memorial Chapel, officiated by Dr. Shad Hicks and Rev. Jerry Mabry. Burial will follow at the Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery at 20741 Union Grove Road, Albemarle, following the burial, the family will receive friends at the Union Grove Fellowship Hall.

Survivors include daughter, Pamela Jeanine Curlee (Jeff Branch), her son, Jody Kent Curlee (Tara), her grandsons; Matthew Treece (Stephanie), Cody Treece (Chelsea), Darrian Huneycutt (Stephanie); her cherished great-grandchildren; Whitley Treece, Hollis Treece, Pierson Treece, Daxton Huneycutt and Ayla Huneycutt and her special grand dog Scooter.Also her (special daughter) Tina Morris.
