Ruth McDougle Mooney

Ruth McDougle "Mac" Mooney, 85, of Harrisburg, NC passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at Pruitt Health - Town Center in Harrisburg.

Mrs. Mooney was born Feb. 23, 1940 in Buncombe County, NC to the late Walter E. McDougle and Mary Ruth Tarleton McDougle. Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Robert Joel Mooney of Harrisburg, NC and her sister-in-law Jandy Mooney of Burlington, NC. 

Ruth, or "Mac" as she was known to many, enjoyed collecting antiques, hiking, and visiting. her hometown, Black Mountain, NC.. She loved cats, including her buddy Cecil. She was happy to see winter snow and delighted to see spring daffodils. She was a member of Westford Methodist Church where she was a past member of the choir. Mac enjoyed working in the ECU football department and in the Religious Affairs Department at UNCC. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building Fund at Westford Methodist Church, 273 Highway 49 South, Concord, NC 28025.

Hartsell Funeral Home of Harrisburg is serving the Mooney family.

A Celebration of Life will take place at 11:00am on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at Westford Methodist Church.
