Robert "Bob" Yates, Jr.

Robert “Bob” Andrews Yates, Jr. 78, of Charlotte, passed away Sunday, November 27, 2022, at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis.

Mr. Yates was born September 15, 1944, in Bennettsville, South Carolina to the late Robert Andrews Yates, Sr. and the late Aletha Guy Walker. He was a graduate of Aberdeen High School, the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master’s Degree in Divinity. Mr. Yates served as a Deacon and an Elder at Covenant Church of Harrisburg. He was a member of the Gideons International Cabarrus South Camp where he enjoyed serving in the jail ministry and ministering at Stonewall Jackson Youth Development Center. Mr. Yates founded the Harrisburg, NC Horseshoe League and served as the Seniors representative on the Harrisburg, NC Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. He was also an avid fan of the Wake Forest Demon Deacons and the Atlanta Braves.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm - 1:45 pm, Friday, December 9, 2022, at Covenant Church of Harrisburg. A celebration of his life will follow at 2:00 pm in the church's sanctuary with the Rev. Charles M. Efird and the Rev. Gene Turner, Jr. Officiating. A private burial will be held at a later time.

Survivors include wife, Beverly Caldwell Yates of Charlotte, NC; son, Andy Yates, and wife, Charlotte, of Huntersville, NC; daughter, Jennifer McGee, and husband, Micah, of Harrisburg, NC; grandchildren William Kellogg, Lizzy Kellogg, Malachi McGee, Abram McGee, and Samuel McGee; and his beloved dogs Bruno and Jasmine.

Memorials may be made to Cabarrus County Hospice & Palliative Care, Gideons International, or St Jude's Children's Hospital.
