Rev. Edward A. "Ed" Lenzer Jr., 87, of Concord, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2026, at Atrium Health Cabarrus Hospital in Concord, surrounded by his loving family.
Born April 25, 1939, in Ohio, he was the son of the late Edward Anthony Lenzer Sr. and Gertrude Anna Lenzer. He was a retired pastor of over 60 years who faithfully served his congregations and his Lord. His ministry began in Zanesville, Ohio, before taking the family to Muskogee, Oklahoma. They settled in North Carolina in 1979, later serving briefly in Ft. Pierce, Florida before returning to make their home in Concord. From there, he commuted to preach in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
He married Margaret Ann in October 1956, sharing 56 wonderful years together before her passing in 2012.
Ed and Margaret were blessed with five children. Their son, Tommy, died at birth in 1965. They went on to raise daughters Sandy, Tammy, Lori, and son Edward.
He loved his family hard, prayed harder, and left behind a legacy of redemption, faith, and a love that death cannot touch. Ed loved singing old hymns, the Cincinnati Reds, and playing softball in his younger years.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Margaret Ann Lenzer; his infant son, Tommy Lenzer; and his brother, Frankie Lenzer.
Survivors include his children, Sandy Furr (Tim), Tammy Wallace (Rodney), Lori Marsh (Mike), and Edward Lenzer III (Melissa); grandchildren, Ashley VanAllen (Jim), Clay Bailey, Justin Wallace, Eddie Lenzer, Taylor Weiss (JD), Brittany Bailey, Kody Lenzer, Timmy Furr (Megan), Chase Wallace, and Zoey Lenzer; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Ginger Brausch, Jeanne Lenzer, and Beverly Mayhugh; and sister-in-law, Darbara Fritzwater.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. - 12:45 p.m., Friday, May 15, 2026, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Scott Wheeler. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.
The family extends their gratitude to the staff of Five Oaks Nursing Home for their compassionate care during Ed’s battle with dementia.
