Renie Brooks

Renie Butler Colyer Brooks, 80, of Stanfield, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Charlotte. Mrs. Brooks was born August 29, 1932 in Asheville to the late Leigh Colyer and Helena Duarte Butler Colyer. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Dorsett Brooks, in 2010 and a son, Daniel Brooks, Jr. in 1985. Mrs. Brooks had moved with her family from Asheville to Charlotte in 1939 and attended Eastover Elementary, A. G. Junior High and what was then Central High School before attending Peace College. Mrs. Brooks loved her family, friends and her neighbors, all of whom brought her much love and comfort. She loved her trips to the beach and the mountains with friends, and was a consummate shopper, who took great delight in decorating her house for every special occasion. Mrs. Brooks retired from Bank of America, after many years of service and maintained several of the friendships she had made there. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother and friend to many. She had a special group of friends who came to her home for refreshments and fellowship every Wednesday afternoon. The memorial service will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Love’s Grove United Methodist Church, 4360 Polk Ford Road, Stanfield, NC 28163. Rev. Jim White and Rev. David Rea will officiate. The visitation will follow in the church fellowship hall. Survivors include her sons, Marcus Leigh Brooks and his wife, LuAnn, of Stanfield and John Patrick Brooks and his wife, Amy, of Charlotte; grandchildren, Jessi, Garrett, and Katie Brooks; and her sister, Helena Rea; nephew, Jim Rea and his wife, Sherri, and their sons, J. T., Austin and McClendon; niece, Catherine Toomey and her husband, Jay, and their children, Jake and McNeil; nephew, David Rea and his wife, Stefani, and their children, Virginia, Cole, and Jack. She was especially fond of her uncle, Lawrence “Lonnie” Colyer of East Point Georgia. Memorials may be made to Love’s Grove United Methodist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 276, Stanfield, NC 28163.
