Ray Martin Blackwelder, 84 years of age, of Concord, passed away Friday, January 9, 2015 at Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast in Concord.
Ray was born July 28, 1930 in Concord to the late Alfred Holmes Blackwelder and the late Annie Pless Blackwelder.
He was also preceded in death by two loving wives, June Tucker Blackwelder and Peggy Lipe Blackwelder; two brothers, Richard and Ralph Blackwelder, and two sisters, Betty Love and Carolyn Moose.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Sunday, January 11, 2015 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. The funeral service will be on Monday at 3:00 pm at Mt Hermon Lutheran Church in Concord and will be officiated by Rev. Carrie Bishop. Burial will follow at the Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church Cemetery at 3600 Hwy 601 S., Concord.
Ray was a 1949 graduate of Harrisburg High School. After graduation, he entered the US Air Force and was stationed at Holloman Air Force Base in Alamagordo, New Mexico. Ray was an active member of the Concord Civitan Club, through which he became an avid supporter of the ARC. He was a life-long member of Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church where he served as church treasurer for over 25 years.
Survivors include two daughters, Janet (Richard) Calloway of Washington, NC, and Pam (Rowdy) Barefoot of Simpsonville, SC; son Dan (Kim) Blackwelder of Huntersville, NC; seven grandchildren, Stacey (Matt) Waddell, Cory (Kathi) Calloway, Evan Barefoot, Carson Barefoot, Madison Barefoot, Brittany (Dave) Kinder, and Megan Blackwelder, three great-grandchildren, and also numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to his faithful caregiver, Mrs. Sandy Dabney.
