Randall Soyars Minix went home to be with Jesus on May 8, 2026 at age 76.
He was born to Samuel S. and Nancy L. Minix on January 21, 1950 in Lynchburg, VA.
Randy played basketball at William Campbell High School in Naruna, VA and received a scholarship to play at Virginia Tech from 1968-1972. He was an active member and continued to serve on the board of directors of the German Club at VT. He graduated with honors with a degree in accounting and became a CPA.
Randy married his high school sweetheart, Patricia S. Minix, on June 17, 1972. That same year, they moved to Greensboro, NC where they lived for 47 years. In 1988, Randy started his own CPA firm, Minix, Morgan & Co, CPA. He retired with forty years of experience. In 2019, Randy and Patricia moved to Charlotte, where they lived for the last 6 years. They were married for 53 years.
Randy and Patricia went on to have two children, Julie and Kevin. They also have four grandchildren - Clara, Eli, Emme and Easton. In addition to being a dedicated and loving father, Randy also loved sports, specifically basketball and softball. He was known as “Coach” and “Teammate” by many, especially the softball team at Gate City Baptist Church.
Throughout Randy’s entire life, he held an unwavering faith in God, which Randy shared with those who surrounded him as a church treasurer, men’s Sunday School teacher, church deacon, choir member, mentor and friend.
Randy joins his parents, father-in-law, Glenn Shutt, and daughter-in-law, Martha Minix, in heaven. He is survived by his wife, his daughter, Julie Furniss (Brett), his son, Kevin Minix, his four grandchildren and his brother, Gerry Minix (Beverley). The family has peace because of Randy’s strong faith in Christ. He is in heaven with Jesus and they will see him again.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm-2:45 pm, Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Harrisburg, NC. The funeral service will be on Thursday at 3:00 pm at the funeral home officiated by Rev. Kevin Minix.
