Phyllis Jean Coble Barbee, 76 years of age, of Oakboro, passed away Monday, January 12, 2015 at her home with her family by her side.
Phyllis was born July 13, 1938 in Stanly County to the late Titus Wesley "TW" Coble and the late Margie Inez Turner Coble.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Thursday, January 15, 2015 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The funeral service will be on Friday at 3:00 pm at Mineral Springs Baptist Church in Oakboro officiated by Rev. Michael Taylor and friend Chip Alsobrooks. She will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service. The burial will follow at the church cemetery. At other times the family will be gathering at the home.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 51 years, William "Jerry" Barbee of the home; daughter, Gwendolyn McCarthy and husband Sean of Locust; grandchildren, MacKenzie McCarthy, Morgan McCarthy, and Zane McCarthy, all of Locust; sister, Judy Kay Coble Tucker and husband Larry of Oakboro; and nephew, Wesley Coble Tucker of Oakboro.
Phyllis was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to all who knew her. She was a lifelong member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church, and was a bookkeeper. The family would like to thank special friend, Sandy Huneycutt, for over 10 years of loving care. The family would also like to extend a special thanks to the nurses at Community Home Care & Hospice for their compassionate care.
