Phillip (Phil) Howard Hutchinson of Rowlett, TX passed away on Friday, May 16, 2025 at the age of 84, in Ocala, Florida. He attended Firewheel Bible Fellowship for many years in Rowlett. His battle with serious medical issues in the last year showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile. Despite everything, Phil came out a hero and stayed strong until the end.
Phillip was born on Monday, February 10, 1941 in Darlington, South Carolina to the late Wilbur Luther “Bill” Hutchinson and Eula (Register) Hutchinson. Phillip was also preceded in death by the love of his life, wife, Virgie Louise (Drye) Hutchinson; a son, Phillip Wayne “Chip” Hutchinson and brother, Larry Wayne Hutchinson.
SMSGT Phillip Hutchinson “Hutch” (Retired), a respected veteran of the Air Force served from January 7, 1963 to July 31, 1985. His first position was a Technical Aircraft Maintenance Technician. Eventually, he became the Production Supervisor for the F15’s at Luke Air Force Base. After his military retirement he went on to another career as a maintenance engineer with Constar International, Inc. where he retired around 2006.
Phil’s love for God, family, and sports was apparent! Many family memories were made while they spent time on the roads around Arizona, California, North Carolina, South Carolina, Utah, and Florida. While he wanted to play sports as a youngster he was too small, so he became the biggest fan of football, especially the Carolina Panthers, women’s softball and little league baseball. Rusty Wallace influenced his love for NASCAR and his latest fandom was directed at hockey. He watched the playoffs up till the night before his passing.
Phil also loved to travel, seeing much of the world. Some of his memorable moments included visiting San Juan, Puerto Rico, and reminiscing about when his father was stationed there and exploring local islands. Visiting Thailand where he was stationed during his military career and seeing the many changes.
