Rock Hill

Hazel Pauline (Polly) Moose, 101, of Rock Hill, passed away Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Harbor Chase Assisted Living in Rock Hill, SC.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Sunday, September 27, 2026, at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle, N.C. A graveside funeral service will be on Monday at 11:00 am at Fairview Memorial Park in Albemarle officiated by Rev. Kara Wheeler, Associate Pastor for Family Ministries, First Presbyterian Church of Rock Hill, SC. First Presbyterian Church of Albemarle will host a reception for family and friends following the graveside service.

Polly was born April 23, 1925, in Stanly County, North Carolina to the late Brack Franklin Burris and the late Inez Levernie Burris. She was preceded in death by her husband, Verne Moose, and her son, Mark Moose of Davidson.

Survivors include her daughter, Karen and son-in-law Tom Hickman of Rock Hill, SC, four grandchildren, Wes Hickman (Meghan), Brett Hickman (Ariel), Lauren Oursler (Chris), Michell Foster (Matt) and 6 great grandchildren.

Polly lived in Stanly County most of her life until moving to Rock Hill, SC at the age of 93. She and Verne were married on February 14, 1948, until his death in September 2004. She was born into a large family and many family members lived in the Albemarle/Stanly County area, so there were many family celebrations throughout the years. Even after her move to Rock Hill, she enjoyed the Niece/Nephew get-togethers in Albemarle.

Vegetable and flower gardening were enjoyments for most of her life. Needle Point was a hobby that she enjoyed and created very special Christmas stockings for her grandchildren. She always enjoyed being a part of First Presbyterian Church and felt at home working in the kitchen for dinners and events.

After retirement she volunteered at the hospital working on the Nourishment Cart on the floors for patients that could have something to drink. The volunteer coordinator said, "What our patients and staff loved about Polly was her kindness and friendliness and from time to time she would run into a former customer from her banking days that would make her day." Another opportunity she enjoyed was delivering meals for Meals on Wheels. She loved to walk at Rock Creek Park and became interested in race walking in local, state, and even race walked in a national Senior Games.

Memorials may be made to the building fund at First Presbyterian Church of Albemarle.
