Paul Orville Lowry passed away on July 15, 2026, at the age of 85 at Brookdale Carriage Club Providence in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Paul was born on June 6, 1941, in Lynch, Nebraska, to Orville Raymond Lowry and Katherine Lucille Lowe Lowry. He earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tennessee. Paul devoted more than 30 years of his professional life to IBM, where he also completed graduate coursework in electrical engineering.
Paul’s life was marked by his deep faith and commitment to serving others. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and generously gave his time to Jail Ministry, the Our Daily Bread food-reclamation and delivery ministry, and the Friendship Trays meal-delivery ministry. Through his service, he offered encouragement, compassion, and practical assistance to those in need.
Above all, Paul was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Virginia Ann Lowry; his children, Michael Thomas Lowry and his wife, Rene; Denise Lowry DeGeare and her husband, Joe; and Mark Allen Lowry and his wife, Cherie. He was a loving grandfather to Thomas Michael Lowry, Gage Alexander Bierschwale, Charleston Quinn Lowry, and Whitaker Allen Lowry.
Paul will be remembered for his intelligence, strong faith, heart for service, and deep love for his family. His life touched many people, and his legacy will live on through the family and community he loved.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 23, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord. The Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. during the visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 24, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Interment will follow at St. James Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
