Paul Edward Gillespie, 83, of Concord, passed away Thursday, December 26, 2013. Mr. Gillespie was born August 30, 1930 to the late Robert Langley Gillespie and Maebell Foster Gillespie. In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Collins Gillespie; brother, Robert (Bob) Gillespie; granddaughter, Jennifer Newsome and grandson - in- law, Kenny Ellenburg. The family will receive friends at Heritage Baptist Church, 274 Honeycutt Dr. Concord, NC 28025 on Saturday, December 28, 2013 from 10:00am until 11:00am. The funeral service, officated by Rev. Terry Cruse, will follow in the church sanctuary at 11:00am. Burial will be held at Carolina Memorial Park of Harrisburg, NC. The family will be meeting at his residence, 700 Harvell Dr. Concord, NC. Paul is survived by five sons, John Gillespie and wife Jane of Norwood, Greg Gillespie and wife Deborah of Kannapolis, David Gillespie and wife Phyllis of Concord, Tom Gillespie and wife Dallas of Salisbury and Tim Gillespie and wife Melody of Concord; two daughters, Angela Potter and husband Steve of Salisbury and Sarah Hardy and husband John of Conroe, TX; 24 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. There was 5 Generation's and a total of 65 family members. He was a devoted husband and loving father. He proudly served his country in the military during the years of 1954 - 1963. Paul retired from Central Motor Lines in 1991 after 18 years of service. Mr. Gillespie was liked by all and loved by many. He was a Godly man and a valuable servant to the Lord. He dedicated three years to Pine Grove Baptist Church as a pulpit committee member. He played many important roles in the beginning of Bethany Baptist Church. His loving hands helped to build the church. He also served as an usher for 15 years there. His present membership was Heritage Baptist Church. His love was endless until his home coming on Thursday, December 26, 2013. Hartsell Funeral Home is serving the Gillespie family.
