Ovella Kate Brown Lipe, 91 years of age, of Stanfield, passed away Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House of Southminster in Charlotte.
Ovella was born May 9, 1923 in Union County to the late Arthur Clarance Brown and the late Nannie Newell Brown. She was also preceded in death by husband, John Levi Lipe; sons, Johnny Wayne and Aubrey Dry; son in law, Frank Hawley; brothers, Howard and Curtis Brown, and Vernon Helms; and sisters, Minnie Helms, Janette Helms, Gladys Helms, and Lucille Collins.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Sunday, November 23, 2014 at Hartsell Funeral Home in Midland. The funeral service officiated by Rev. Steve Barbee will be at 11:00 AM, Monday, November 24, 2014 in Hartsell Funeral Home's Chapel in Midland. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, 461 Church St. North, Concord, NC 28025.
She is cherished by her memories and survived by her sons and daughter, Walter Lipe of Newport News, VA, Erlene Lipe Hawley of Middlesex, Kenny Lipe of Sarasota, FL, and Danny Lipe of Stanfield; daughter-in-laws, Holly, Delores and Sharon Lipe; five grandchildren, Krystal Lipe, John Lipe, Frankie Hawley, Frances Willis, and Sharon Price; nine great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Ms. Ovella was a great cook and seamstress. She shared her love through her magnificent baking and cakes. She was a member of Gleaning Mission Church of Oakboro. She was compassionate in her faith to God and her church family. Pastor Steve Barbee and wife, Sherry were accepted as part of the Lipe family. She was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her.
