Novalene Trull Fero, 93, of Cabarrus County, went home to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, in the early morning hours of March 6, 2026, at Atrium Health Cabarrus. She was surrounded by her three daughters after a recent decline in health and is now reunited with her loving husband.
Novalene was born October 15, 1932, at home in Concord, North Carolina, alongside her twin brother. She graduated from Concord High School in 1950 and later graduated from the Louise Harkey School of Nursing. She devoted her career to serving others as a public health nurse in Cabarrus County, faithfully caring for families throughout the community.
In 1971, she married her loving husband and best friend, Charles Arthur Fero, and together built a life centered on family, faith, and service. Her life reflected a deep faith and a heart for service. Novalene loved volunteering with Cooperative Christian Ministries and Meals on Wheels. She faithfully taught Good News Club and Missionettes, investing in the lives of many children over the years. She supported and volunteered with the American Legion and the DAV, showing her appreciation for those who served our country, and served as treasurer of the TOPS Club. She was a faithful member of Pitts Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lorenzo Culpepper Trull and Tessie Lee Underwood Trull; her four brothers, including her twin Bill Trull, and brothers Bobby Trull, J.T. Trull, and Arnold Trull; and her loving husband, Charles Arthur Fero.
She is survived by her daughters Vickie Garrison Brown and Jim Brown of Concord, Susan Garrison Morrison of Oak Island, and Cathy Garrison Winstead of Concord. She is also survived by her sister and lifelong best friend, Peggy Carter of Concord; her sister-in-law Connie Fero; and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Harry and Charlene Fero. Her grandchildren include Leah and Mike Prasse of Matthews, Justin Brown of Kannapolis, Miles and Pam Barfield of Cleveland, North Carolina, and Paul Barfield and Jenny Williams of Canoga Park, California. Her great-grandchildren include Hunter and Madison Brown, Drew and Jake Prasse, and Jewel and Shania Bare. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Novalene often said she wanted her life to mean something and to make a difference. She was proud of her family and proud of her work as a nurse, a calling through which she cared for so many in Cabarrus County. She was strong-willed, determined, and known by her family to be a bit bossy and a natural worrier, but those traits came from a deep love and desire to take care of those around her. She was the matriarch of her family and took that role seriously. She lived a simple and faithful life. Novalene was frugal but loved preparing meals for those she loved. In quieter moments she enjoyed crossword puzzles and Sudoku, and she faithfully studied her Bible. Novalene will be remembered for her hardworking spirit, her dedication as a nurse, and the way she faithfully pointed others to Christ.
Her family rejoices knowing she is now home with her Savior and reunited with the love of her life.
A private family graveside service will be held at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Pitts Baptist Church.
Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord is serving the Fero family.
