Mrytle Evadine Harris nee White

March 2, 1934 — November 27, 2023

Myrtle Evadnie Harris nee White was born on March 2 , 1934 in the village of Point Hill,  St Caterine, Jamaica, to Lucille White.  She spent her childhood years living with her siblings, Roy, Claudette and Ruby at their grandparents’ home in Point Hill.  They shared many stories of their escapades as teenagers.  Myrtle moved to Spanish Town in her late teens to find a job.  There, she met Oscar Harris and fell in love. After living together many years, they were married in August 1963, when Myrtle became a born-again Christian.  The union produced two children.

As the matriarch of our extended family, Myrtle was a force of nature.  She was the wife, mother, disciplinarian, financial planner, manager, counselor, prayer partner. I also called her Minister of Distress – always wanting to help anyone in need.  As a wife and partner, she supported her husband while managing to get her projects completed.  Although Myrtle had no formal education and considered herself a home-maker, she was always involved in multiple business ventures - seamstress, selling goods, or su-su – to help with supporting her family and others. We were always amazed that she could find the money to do so many things. She strongly believed that “it takes a village” for families to strive and be successful. She was one of the matriarchs of our village and our home a gathering place for all age groups.

Myrtle lived her life based on three tenets – Faith, Prayer, and Works. She had an unyielding Faith in God that He would always make a way. She followed that with prayer and being industrious. As a foundation member of the Glad Tidings Open Bible Church in Spanish Town, Jamaica, Myrtle faithfully served by visiting the sick and shut-ins, preparing meals for conventions and as a member of the prayer team.

Myrtle migrated to the United States in 1997 after her husband passed away and spent her remaining years with her daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

On November 27,2023, the Lord called her home and we rejoice in the long and rich life she lived. She will be sadly missed by daughters Beverly  and Heline; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; siblings Roy, Valma, Blossom; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 09, 2023  at 11:00 AM in the Hartsell Funeral Home- Harrisburg Chapel. A LIVE webcasting of the service will begin by 10:50 am at this link.  https://video.ibm.com/hartsell-funeral-home-harrisburg-nc1
