Morton "Guy" Hunker

Morton Conklin Hunker, known to nearly everyone simply as “Guy,” passed away on September 11, 2026 surrounded by the family he loved so fiercely.

If you knew Guy, you may not have known his given name but you knew his unmistakable laugh. You knew he was always ready with a joke to lighten the mood, that he cared deeply, and that he would show up whenever someone needed him, even before they realized they did.

Guy grew up alongside six sisters and one brother, filling his childhood with family, laughter, and more than a few adventures. Those early years shaped the life he would go on to live, one centered on relationships, keeping people connected, and loving his family without reservation.

Guy and Janet eloped in Virginia in 1983, choosing a life together despite the Catholic Church’s objections, something he constantly shared with anyone that would listen. For more than four decades, they built a life filled with family, laughter, and love. Their enduring commitment to one another spoke for itself.

Throughout Guy’s life, the story remained the same: he showed up. He showed up for his family, for his friends, and for the people he loved. He reminded everyone around him that even during life’s hardest moments, it was still okay to tell a joke, laugh together, and enjoy the time we are given.

Guy’s greatest joy was his family. Carrying on his legacy is his beloved wife, Janet; his son, Matthew, and daughter-in-law, Virginia; and his daughter, Elizabeth, and son-in-law, Jon; and his nephew Nathan. He was immensely proud of his four grandchildren, Charles, Rebecca, Michael, and Teddy. In recent years, his happiest moments were spent with them: sharing music and laughter, spoiling them whenever possible, and arriving first in the school pickup line, often an hour early, just to make sure he was there when they needed him. He never allowed them to doubt how deeply they were loved.

Guy was preceded in death by his mother, Beverly; his beloved grandparents, Nan and Pop; his mother- and father-in-law, Dorothy and John Vadney; his sister, Debbie Demais; and his brother, Donny Hunker.

Guy leaves behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, and love and a family forever changed by the way he cared for them. His absence will be immeasurable, but so will the love he leaves behind.

The services will be held at Parkwood Baptist Church located at 1069 Central Dr NW Concord, NC 28027 at 2:00 PM on Thursday September 17, 2026. The family will receive visitors afterwards.
