Mary Etta West, 81, of Concord, NC passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, June 12, 2022, surrounded by her beloved family.
Mary West was born on August 4, 1940, in Concord, North Carolina to the late, Walter Theodore Lefler and the late, Mary Belle Canup Lefler. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Louis West.
Mary is survived by her brother, David Lefler of Concord, NC; sister, Margaret Oldham of Bear Creek, NC; son, Daniel (Becky) West of Mt. Gilead, NC; son, Dan (Dianne) West of Canton, OH; daughter, Teresa (Randy) Smithers of Danville, VA; daughter, Angela (Robert) Vaughn of Mt. Pleasant, NC; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
When Mary was born in 1940, she was published in the newspaper as the largest baby to have been born in Cabarrus County, weighing in at 14 lbs. Throughout her life she lived up to this with her big and vibrant personality. She was a loving, caring, and selfless wife, mother, and friend. Mary was a business owner, and started West Drum Company with her husband, Louis, over 40 years ago. She was hard-working and worked diligently alongside her husband until retirement. She loved being outdoors, gardening, making ceramics, baking, and vacationing with her family.
Mary was a member of Vision Baptist Church in Rockwell, NC. Her unwavering faith and love for Jesus was an inspiration to all that knew her. She was a servant to His kingdom, as she was always willing to serve and do whatever she could to help others in need.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the hospice services of Atrium Health and her caregiver, Jennifer, for providing Mary with exceptional care.
The family will receive visitors at 2:00 pm on Sunday, June 26, 2022, at Harvest Community Church at 4284 Orphanage Rd, Concord, NC. A service to celebrate her life will follow at 3:00 pm on Sunday at Harvest Community Church and will be officiated by Pastor Matt Turbedsky. Burial will then follow at the Carolina Memorial Park Kannapolis at Hwy. 29 N at I-85, Exit 58, Concord.
