Martha Hartsell

February 8, 1925 — January 27, 2015


Martha Safrit Hartsell, 89 years of age, of Concord, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at her home.

Mrs. Hartsell was born February 8, 1925 in Cabarrus County to the late George Henry Safrit and the late Laura Bell (Fisher) Safrit. She was also preceded in death by her husband Harold W. Hartsell, Sr. in 2000; her son Mickey York Hartsell; as well as sister Evelyn Eudy and brother Tommy Safrit.

Martha was a very happy person who enjoyed life to the fullest, loving everyone who surrounded her. She thrived with laughter and jokes and was content when surrounded by her family and friends. She was the Secretary/Bookkeeper at Bethel Elementary School for 41 years, adding joy to countless students and teachers. She was faithful to her God and her Church. She will be sorely missed by many.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. The funeral service will be on Friday at 2:00 pm at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Highway 200 in Concord, officiated by Rev. Mark Clontz. Burial will follow at the Oakwood Cemetery in Concord.

Survivors include her daughter, Jeanette (Jimmy) Eaves of Midland; sons Harold Wesley Hartsell, Jr. of Norwood, and Robert Lee Hartsell II of Concord; her brother Ken Safrit of Concord; six grandchildren, Jena (Jimmy) Garrett of Charleston SC; Jay (Shannon) Eaves of Midland: Jeron (Jenn) Eaves of San Francisco, CA; Ellis Hartsell of Denver, CO; Joseph (Lindsey) Hartsell of Concord; Julia (Matt) Chisholm of Arden, NC :seven great grandchildren, Jamie, Chandler and Collin Garrett of Charleston, SC: Carson and Shelby Eaves of Midland, and Sharpe and Shepherd Hartsell of Concord; as well as 15 nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church of Concord.
The family will be at the home of Jeanette Eaves on Sam Black Road in Midland.
