Martha Burdell Church

Martha Burdell Church, 83, of Charlotte, passed away Saturday, October 21, 2023, peacefully at home with family by her side.

Burdell was born January 24, 1940, in Aquone, NC, to the late Horace and Nora Bryant.  She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jimmy Church; grandson, Justin Kimbrell; 8 siblings; and son-in-laws, Danny Redmon and Alan Hicks.

Survivors include daughter, Robin (Jr) Kimbrell of Midland; daughter, Belinda (Billy Kepley) Redmon of Charlotte; daughter, Patty Church of Concord; daughter, Jenny (Jim Arnder) Hicks of Concord; four grandchildren, Brian (Angie) Redmon, Brenda (James) Moffitt, Keith (Nikki) Hicks, and Amanda (Austin) Arnder; 11 great-grandchildren, Emma, Marley, Karson, Kaiden, Danny, Alyssa, Declan, Landry, Charleigh, Reagan, and Riley; several nieces and nephews; and "extra daughters," Emily Little and Ruth Queen.

Burdell retired from UNCC Mail Center.  She was a member of Mallard Creek Baptist Church, Charlotte.  Burdell enjoyed bowling, gardening, cooking, and going to the mountains.  She also enjoyed sitting on the front porch watching the hummingbirds.  Most of all, she loved spending time with family, especially her Sunday tea parties with her great-grandbabies, who affectionately called her "Nanny."  Nanny always said "I love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck."  Our Nanny will be forever loved and dearly missed.  Always remember, "Everything will be alright." 

The family will receive friends from 10:30 am - 11:45 am, Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Harrisburg.  The funeral service will follow at 12:00 pm in the funeral home chapel, officiated by Rev. Tim Jones and Rev. Tommy Bright.  Burial will follow at Mallard Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Charlotte.

The Church family would like to thank Dr. Ashley Gaines, hospice nurses, Yvette, Carrianne, and Tara, and sister-in-laws, Bessie Bryant and Mary Caudle for their love and support.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County or Levine Cancer Institute, Concord.
