Marie Greene

Marie Plummer Greene, 90 of Concord, passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at Tucker Hospice House. The family will receive friends at Mt Herman Lutheran Church 3600 US 601 South Concord on Thursday, October 11, 2012 from 11 am until 1 pm. Funeral services will follow in the church at 1 pm, with Pastor Keith Copeland and Pastor Carrie Bishop officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis. Marie was born and raised in Cabarrus County on January 19, 1922, to the late James Robert and Rosa Coffey Plummer. She was also preceded in death by her husband Chester “Dick” Greene, son Ronald Greene and his wife Vicki, three sisters and three brothers. Marie was a lifetime member of Mt. Herman Lutheran Church and was an active member until her health declined. She was the owner and operator of The Gingham Craft Shoppe and taught arts and crafts for Rowan Cabarrus Community College. She was also owner and operator of Green Acres Mobile Home Park. Marie was active in the Democrat Woman’s Organization and served as Secretary, First Vice President and President. She was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi Soroity and held many offices and was named Woman of the Year for three different years and was also a lifetime member of The Woman’s Organization of American Legion Post 51. She was a charter member and organizer of the Country Neighbors Extension Home Makers Club and served as Secretary, First Vice President and President. She served as Vice Chairman and Chairman of Cabarrus County Social Services Board of Directors for nine years. She is survived by: one daughter, Rosemarie Shoaf and husband Bobby, son, Michael Greene and wife Judy; grandchildren, Scott Shoaf, Chet Greene, Allen Greene and wife Dana, Melanie Greene, Jeffrey Greene and wife Shannon and Jimmy Greene and wife Dorenda; great-grandchildren, Jody Greene, Justin Greene, Elizabeth Wholren, Michaela Greene, Austin Greene, Jacob Greene, Dylan Greene, and John Greene; also a great-granddog, Jack.
