Marie Fatima Myrna Dambreville—affectionately known as Nanotte—was born on October 13, 1950, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to Patrick Innocent Dudré Bodkin and Olympie Saint-Cyr.
Though her early years were not without hardship, they were filled with the unwavering love of family. Raised by her devoted aunts, Nana and Dedette, Nanotte grew up surrounded by the warmth and closeness of her cousins—Maud, Jocelyne, Chantale, Mireille, and Magali—forming bonds that would last a lifetime.
Nanotte completed her secondary education at République du Brésil before embarking on a new chapter in 1968, when she immigrated to Boston, Massachusetts. There, she reunited with her childhood sweetheart, Yves Dambreville. Their love blossomed into a lifelong partnership, and together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and purpose. They welcomed their first daughter, Mukiya, in 1972, and nine years later, their second daughter, Nafeesah.
A gifted cosmetologist, seamstress, baker, jeweler with a natural creative spirit, Nanotte had a remarkable ability to transform the ordinary into something beautiful. Whether crafting elegant draperies or designing a dress, her hands worked with love and intention. But her creativity was only one facet of her generous soul. Nanotte’s home was a haven—always open to those in need of comfort, shelter, a warm meal or a kind word. What truly set Nanotte apart was her radiant sense of humor. She had a rare gift for finding light in even the darkest moments. Her laughter was infectious, her sharp wit, and her joy was a source of strength—not just for herself, but for everyone around her. Through life’s trials, she never lost her sparkle, choosing instead to meet each challenge with grace ,a smile, and a joke.
While raising her young family, Nanotte pursued her dream of becoming a nurse. She earned her associate degree in nursing from Mass Bay Community College and began her career at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. Her compassion and dedication left a lasting impact on her patients and colleagues alike. Later in life, Nanotte moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, where she continued her calling in caregiving. She served with love and integrity at Sunrise Senior Living and Carolinas Medical Center (Atrium Health), remaining devoted to her work until her well-earned retirement. Above all, Nanotte was a devoted mother to Mukiya and Nafeesah, and a proud, doting grandmother to her beloved Kiara. Her love for her family was boundless and unconditional. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Mukiya, Nafeesah, and her bonus-daughter, Takreem; her granddaughter, Kiara; her son-in-law, Jymaal; her brothers, Jacques Steve Bodkin and Indrickson Bodkin; her sister, Magali; her nieceand nephews, Khadijah; her nephews, Chris, Claessens, Martin and Hardeep; and her two dearest friends, Fifi and TiKame. Her memory also lives on in the hearts of her extended family and countless friends whose lives she touched with her kindness, humor, and strength.
Nanotte leaves behind a legacy of resilience, compassion, and joy. Her life was a testament to the power of love, the beauty of service, and the enduring strength of family. She will be remembered always—with laughter, affection, and deep respect.
