Marie Ann Smith

Marie Ann Smith, 81, of Albemarle, passed away Monday, July 8, 2024 at her daughter's home in Oakboro, surrounded by her family.

Marie was born October 15, 1942 in Stanly County, North Carolina to the late Thaddeaus Howard Smith and the late Dora Smith. She was also preceded in death by son, Daniel Kim McDaniel.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm - 2:45 pm, Sunday, July 14, 2024 at Poplin Grove Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow on Sunday at 3:00 pm at Poplin Grove Baptist Church in Albemarle officiated by Rev. Dr. Darrell Nance and Rev. John Lindsay. Burial will immediately follow at the Poplin Grove Baptist Church Cemetery at 220 Poplins Grove Church Road, Albemarle.

Survivors include daughter, Lisa Cox (Jimmie) of Oakboro, NC; grandchildren, Jimmie Dale Cox Jr. (Jennifer) of Albemarle, NC, Jamie O'Connor (John) of Oakboro, NC, and Heather McDaniel of Fletcher, NC; great-grandchildren, Harley Cox, Dyna Cox, Caleb Woolard, James Huneycutt, Abigail Shepherd, Weston Cox, Emmalyn Cox, and Josie O'Connor; sister, Thelma Coley, and many nieces and nephews.

Marie was an avid hiker, craftsperson, dancer, and singer. She especially loved sewing and alterations. Marie also greatly enjoyed going on adventures with her Sunshine Friends. She loved her church, Poplin Grove Baptist Church, where she was a lifelong member. Marie never met a stranger and was loved and will be missed by everyone she met.
