Lovelace Blythe Pugh of Kannapolis passed away Monday, April 20, 2026 at home after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Lovelace was born December 11, 1939 in Huntersville, NC to the late LeGette Blythe and Esther Blythe.
Though she was a lifelong resident of Huntersville until recently, she taught for over 30 years in Cabarrus County Schools beginning at Royal Oaks Elementary and later at Odell Elementary. While she enjoyed her years teaching, her main love was her family, especially her grandson. She happily gave up her teaching career to become a full-time Grammy. There was not a prouder grandmother to be found than Lovelace. Like her father, she was a quiet and steadfast force and she made it her mission to make sure her family knew how much she loved them. There will forever be a void in the lives and hearts of those who loved her.
She loved celebrating and decorating for every holiday and milestone, big or small. Christmas was by far her favorite and there was no room left untouched with Christmas sparkle.
The annual beach trips to Sunset Beach with all her family were almost pilgrimages that she would plan out for weeks ahead of time. Baked goods, snacks and other essentials were packed into the car, sometimes leaving little room for passengers.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Dr. William Blythe and Samuel Blythe.
Left to cherish many wonderful memories are her husband Joe, daughter Elizabeth, grandson William (Annmarie), “bonus granddaughter” Adaline, and her beloved nieces and nephews, Nancy, Julie, Will, Annie, David, John and their families who always knew her as Aunt Sal.
Many thanks and forever gratitude goes out to her Novant Hospice Rowan team – Monica, Jean, Melissa, Linwood, Tiffany and especially Kelly who traveled this long road with us almost from day one. The journey was made easier with their patience, their guidance and unrelenting compassion.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, May 8th, 2026 at the Kellswater Bridge Clubhouse, 3033 Keady Mill Loop, Kannapolis NC 28081. Please come as you are and join us for not a somber occasion but as a celebration of a life well lived.
