Linda Armstrong Hulen

May 9, 1946 — July 18, 2023

Concord

Linda Armstrong Hulen passed away peacefully in her sleep Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at her home after a long struggle with a litany of health issues.  However, during the last two years of her life, due to her strong will, she was able to rise above the struggle and to actively engage with and enjoy her family.

Linda was born May 9, 1946, to the late Lloyd Franklin and Gladys Irene Armstrong.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her three brothers: Jackie, Larry, and Jerry Armstrong.

Linda graduated from Carter High School in Knox County, Tennessee in 1964 where she was a cheerleader for three years.  She married in 1965 and moved with her husband (Ronald S. Hulen) to Addison, Illinois where she worked as a Teamster for Walgreen’s.  In 1968, she and her husband moved back to Knox County where she worked for Valley Fidelity Bank while putting her husband through the University of Tennessee.  In 1972 their daughter Kimberly was born, and shortly after they moved to Charlotte, NC where their son R.D. was born and her husband proceeded to work for Duke Energy. She worked numerous jobs over the years while raising her children and ultimately retired from Patton’s Inc. where she served as their payroll administrator.

Linda was a lifelong Methodist and enjoyed attending church and church activities.  She served on numerous committees as well as “cook” teams for their “Wonderful Wednesday” meals.  She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.  She and her husband, while raising two kids and working full time jobs, spent 6 years and built the home they had lived in for the past 30 years.  Linda loved work, it didn’t matter what the work was, she just simply enjoyed working.  She was an exceptionally good listener and would listen for and find ways to help others.  Being good at listening, she was also good at providing fitting counsel to those to whom she was listening.  Service to others was Linda’s life ambition.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Ronald S. Hulen; daughter Kimberly H. Al-Zaid; son Ronnie "R.D." Hulen; granddaughter Sarah Olivia Al-Zaid; grandson Jacob Nabil Al-Zaid; her lifelong friends and sisters-in-law Lynne M. Hulen and Jeanne L. Armstrong.  Her last remaining sibling is her sister Charlsie Counts.

The family will receive friends at 11:00am to 12:45pm on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord.  A funeral service to honor Linda's life will follow at 1:00pm in the funeral home chapel, officiated by Rev. Jeff  Rushing.  Burial will take place in the Huntersville Presbyterian Church Cemetery.  The funeral service may be viewed via Webcast using the following link: https://video.ibm.com/channel/hartsell-funeral-home-concord
