I lost my soulmate and my dearest friend in the world, Linda Fikkan Blalock to death today
(Friday, December 15, 2023) and my heart is broken, although my spirit still soars because
of her. We have been together since we were married over 43 years ago, on July 19, 1980.
Linda was born in Yakima, Washington on May 29, 1948. She was the daughter of Earl
and Helen Fikkan, and her great-grandparents immigrated to America from Norway. Linda was a
graduate of A.C. Davis High School in Yakima. She was a Registered Nurse and a Nurse
Practitioner, having completed her training in Washington State and in North Carolina, and
having earned her B.S.N. degree at the University of North Carolina in Charlotte. Linda was a
member of the Golden Key National Honor Society, and she was a member of Sigma Theta Tau
International Honor Society of Nursing.
Linda practiced at hospitals in Yakima and Albemarle, and she was most recently in
charge of licensure and inspection of all Adult Care Homes in the western half of the state for the
Division of Health Services Regulation at the North Carolina Department of Health and Human
Services.
I, her husband, Steve Blalock and our son, Thomas and his wife, Jennifer survive her.
She is also survived by her brother, Robert Fikkan of Yakima, and a large number of wonderful
nieces, nephews and cousins in Washington State and in Wisconsin and elsewhere. She was
preceded in death by her sister and our brother-in-law, Susan and Bobby Ray Rushing of
Albemarle, North Carolina, and by her dear friend and sister-in-law, Vickie Fikkan of Yakima.
Linda loved animals, she loved fine food, and she loved to travel. She was a consummate
medical professional, most recently volunteering to administer Covid vaccines in special mobile
vaccination sites set up in Concord, North Carolina during the pandemic. Linda was an
accomplished chef, and she was very adventurous. She took me to places all over the world that
I would never have dreamed of were it not for her. I shall love her, cherish her, and very deeply
miss her forever.
There will be no services.
Memorials in memory of Linda, may be made to https://www.bluefaery.org (Elevar Therapeutics has partnered with this organization) and https://liverfoundation.org/liver-diseases/cancer/hepatocellular-carcinoma.
Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle is serving the Blalock family.
