Lemuel Theodore Rey

Lemuel “Polly” “Poli” Theodore Rey passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 9,2024.  

Lemuel was born November 6, 1921 in East End, Anguilla to the late Charles and Emily Rey. Lemuel was preceded in death by his son, Tyrone Alston Rey, also by so many brothers and sisters that they cannot all be named. 

Lemuel worked as a cab driver in the St. Martin. Lemuel moved to Aruba to get further employment. Lemuel left Aruba to go to England to work in a warehouse. Lemuel moved to the USA; he resided in New York City. In New York he worked at Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, first in maintenance department, then in the pharmacy as an aide. Lemuel worked there until his retirement.  

Lemuel was an active member at his church, Ebenezer Wesleyan Methodist Church. He was a board member and was a strong second tenor in the choir. Lemuel was a big sports fan, especially of the New York Mets and Jets adn the 
Cincinnati Bengals. Lemuel loved supporting his family and helping others in any way he could. Lemuel always loved working around the house keeping himself busy. Lemuel was also a good cook, making fried Johnny cakes, banana pancakes and those wonderful pound cakes. 

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Friday, April 19, 2024, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Harrisburg. The visitation will be webcast:  https://video.ibm.com/hartsell-funeral-home-harrisburg-nc1  (Light refreshments will be served in the reception room during the visitation.) The funeral service in celebration of Lemuel's life will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, April 20, 2024, at New Life Church, 4160 Zion Church Rd., Concord, officiated by Rev. Lawson Whitson. Lemuel will lie-in-state one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Charlotte Memorial Gardens, 7632 Hood Road, Charlotte.

Lemuel is survived by his sons Winston Jeffrey Rey and wife, Lydia of Aruba, and Lemuel “Junior” Valentino Rey and wife Caldine of Charlotte; daughter-in-law, Stephanie Nedd-Rey of Aruba; 5 grandchildren, Chante (Ronald) Greene, Edward (Amaranth) Rey, Gregory (Jay), Vincent (Noel), and Victor Rey; 11 great-grandchildren Khyrique Chisom, Sanaa Greene, Ronald Greene, Mia Greene, Talia Rey, Anaya Rey, Milah Rey, Vincent Rey, Alia Rey, Amia Rey, Xander Rey; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
