Lee Worth Button, II (always affectionately known as “Bomber”), 62, passed away on April 29, 2025 after a brief illness. A native of Chittenango, New York, Bomber most recently lived in Concord, North Carolina, where he had moved to be closer to his son, Lee III, his sports hero, Jeff Gordon, and where he rarely had to wear his signature second pair of socks.
Born on October 6, 1962 to his beloved parents, Lee and Nancy Button, who preceded him in death, Bomber was a graduate of Chittenango High School and attended Morrisville College. A talented operating engineer, Bomber began his career working for the family shop, EJ Button & Sons Construction. He would later pursue various other career opportunities including: logging for AJ Busa Trucking, concrete truck operation for Pumpcrete, and crane operating for Clark Rigging, until his retirement in 2020. He was a proud member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 158. In retirement, he was living out a dream working at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. An energetic and lifelong learner, he could never sit still and was forever asking questions, acquiring new skills, and passing along nuggets of wisdom. He was always up for a game of pitch or horseshoes, an RC car race, or any bar sport. He was a true original - a fierce but fair competitor (no “gimmes”), never afraid to be silly, and always there to help. He loved big and was loved big in return.
Bomber is survived by his wife, Kim; children Leah and Jordan and his namesake, Lee W. Button, III; grandchildren Brandon, Cole, Gabrielle, and Alyssa; his sisters, Sundee and Taffee, his brother, Ben; many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins; and friends too numerous to count.
