Lawrence Eugene Burns

Lawrence Eugene Burns, 87, of Albemarle, passed away Saturday, December 2, 2023 at his home.

Larry was born Mt. Vernon, N.Y., April 15, 1936,  to the late Timothy Burns Sr. and the late Evelyn Gregg Burns. 
He was also preceded in death by brothers, Timothy Burns Jr. and Richard Burns; sisters, Harriet Rawlings and Lorraine Thompson.
 
Larry graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from NYU in New York after he was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force in 1961. Larry also earned various degrees and awards in his field. He was especially proud of his efforts in different Non-Profit organizations, such as Harlem Preparatory School, E.O.C. of Nassau County and one of which he was C.E.O. of, the Long Beach Martin Luther King Jr. in Long Beach, Long Island, N.Y. 

When Larry retired he moved to Albemarle, N.C. and drove school buses for Stanly and Cabarrus Counties.

Survivors include wife, Merion Burns of Long Island, New York; sons, Michael (Beverly) Peter, Lawrence II, Giovanni, Brenden, Jullian, Kimathi, Kofi, Bobby; daughters, Lorraine, Nicole, Tisha and Wanda. Also an abundance of beloved grandchildren, great-grands and great-great grands. Sister, Evelyn Darity, niece, Deborah (Ernest) Reed; as well as host of nieces and nephews to the 3rd generation.
