Larry Poole

November 6, 1941 — December 14, 2014

Larry Arthur Poole, 73 years of age, of Concord, NC, lost his battle with cancer at Tucker Hospice House surrounded by angels on December 14, 2014. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Loretta Poole; daughter, Laura Poole Maisel and husband, Harry, of Clemmons, NC; son, Eric Poole and wife, Laura, of Murfreesboro, TN; four grandchildren, Stephen Maisel, Jessica Maisel, Jacob Poole and Grace Poole; his sister, Kathy Poole McPhail, of Naples, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Larry joins his parents, Delos and Thelma Poole and his brother Steven Poole in death.

Born is Petoskey, Michigan, he was raised in Laingsburg, MI. However, Concord has been his home for the past 40 years. He was a Vietnam Veteran of the US Army. Retired at the time of his death, he had worked as a food service broker. After retiring, he took up squirrel and bird watching and enjoying Loretta's gardening and landscaping skills. He was an avid Union Street and Greenway walker most often seen with one of his beloved greyhound girls, Honey, Hope and Sister. He was a huge animal lover and book reader. He had begun volunteering at the Cabarrus County Public Library before his illness. Larry liked spending time on his computer. He also immensely enjoyed adventure traveling with Loretta. Together they visited 30 countries through the years with Nepal, Mongolia and Tibet being their favorites. Their most recent trip of an African Safari fulfilled a lifelong dream.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord, NC. A military graveside service for Larry will be held at Salisbury National Cemetery on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at 1:00pm with full military honors.
