Larry Wendell Barfield

SSG Larry Wendell Barfield, 70, of Concord, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, March 6, 2026, at home.

Larry was born July 2, 1955, in Trenton, NC, to the late Usher Earl Barfield and the late Agnes Aileen Robinson Barfield. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Doris Barfield; brother, Charles Barfield; and sister, Betty Jean Barfield.

Larry was a retired veteran of the United States Army, proudly serving from 1974-1994. He received the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Overseas Service Ribbon, amongst several other awards. He worked at UNCC for 30 years in purchasing. Larry enjoyed old school music, concerts and football (Go Raiders!). He loved traveling, especially to Myrtle Beach. Most of all, Larry was a beloved husband, brother, uncle and friend. He will be forever loved and dearly missed.

Survivors include 6 siblings, David (Cheryl) Barfield, Clyde Barfield, Linda Moore, Marcus Barfield, Pennie Adams, and Jimmy (Laura) Barfield, all of Trenton, NC as well as Joyce Irvin of New Bern, NC and sister-in-law, Debra K. Barfield; a host of nieces and nephews; and girlfriend, Catina Stewart of Concord, NC; and best friend, Nelson Dawkins.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 am - 11:45 am, Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 pm in the funeral home chapel, officiated by Pastor George H. Ward, Jr.  The service will be webcast.  Larry will be laid to rest with military honors at West Concord Cemetery, 331 Union Cemetery Rd SW, Concord.
